PD Sabre from our Matrix Team was deployed on Wednesday (10th July) after a vehicle pursuit of a car which had been reported stolen from Hemlington earlier that day.
The pursuit went into the Whinney Banks area of Middlesbrough and a man from inside the vehicle decamped on foot.
Sabre searched the area, quickly locating a 20-year-old man who was then arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance and on suspicion of failing to stop for police.
After a roadside test he was further arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
The man was interviewed and bailed pending further enquiries.
Superintendent Darren Bainbridge of the Matrix Team said “This is just another example of how important our dog section is in tackling criminality and keeping our communities safe.
“PD Sabre and his handler showed outstanding resilience and determination to ensure a man was detained and arrested. The dogs love what they do and it is evident in the outcomes they achieve, Well done Sabre!”
