A man has been sentenced at Teesside Crown Court after dealing drugs and attempting to make off from police on a motorbike.
Michael Thomas Hill, aged 22, from Raby Court in Middlesbrough, appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday 24th July, after being charged with multiple offences including possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of criminal property, dangerous driving and other driving offences.
The incident happened on Wednesday 1st May around 3:50pm at the junctions of Angle Street and Newstead Road in Middlesbrough.
After reports of concerns around drugs made by members of the public living in the area, Proactive Team officers listened to those concerns and provided a presence in order to proactively target offenders.
The Proactive Team officers spotted Hill, who had been riding an off-road motorbike, but was also suspected of driving illegally and drug dealing in the area.
As officers moved in to make an arrest, Hill attempted to make off and was apprehended by a plain-clothed officer. He was quickly assisted by uniformed colleagues in arresting the male and taking him into police custody.
Footage below shows the moment that officers tackled Hill in order to make the arrest.
Hill was found to be in possession of 23 deals of cocaine, a quantity of cannabis and a police-style baton.
Middlesbrough Proactive Team Sergeant John Sproson said: “I am satisfied with the sentence handed to Michael Hill.
“Officers are committed to listening to communities’ concerns and tackling the illegal use of off-road bikes, and anyone who uses them in criminality and antisocial behaviour.
“Please continue to report any drug dealing and criminality to police, we are working hard to tackle these issues and put those responsible before the courts.”
On Wednesday 24th July, Hill was handed a two-year intensive supervision order at Teesside Crown Court.
