Police find new ‘home’ for Stockton’s Cadets

The young volunteers – aged between 13 and 17 – and their leaders will now be based at Stockton’s Sixth Form College.

Seeing how valuable the Cadets are to the local community, officers in Stockton went above and beyond to find a new place to enable them to continue to deliver their work.

The college on Bishopton Road – are fully supportive of the scheme and are providing the volunteers with a base – it will also allow them to undertake physical training, receive classroom inputs and to have a consistent meeting place.

Cleveland Police’s Cadet programme is an adventurous, informative and exciting opportunity for young people. Their activity directly benefits the community by conducting speed watch, litter picking, spending time with vulnerable or lonely people and supporting officers at events including Remembrance Sunday. 

Chief Inspector Dan Heron, from Stockton’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is great news for Stockton and the cadets. I am very grateful to the college for supporting this key community resource.

“We will be working with the cadets more regularly to support the work my teams are doing across Stockton.

“Crucially, it provides a framework for young people to understand the local area and prepares them for their further education or indeed employment.”

Mike Mackin, Head of Centre at Stockton Sixth Form College said: “We are pleased to welcome the police Cadets back to Stockton Sixth Form College and look forward to supporting them in their future endeavours.

“They play a pivotal role in the life of the local community, so it was good to finally meet the group on Tuesday evening and see them enjoying the facilities we have on site.”   

Cleveland Police’s Citizens in Policing Coordinator Kenny Clark said: “This is really positive news, and I am very grateful for the support that the college has provided for the Cleveland Police Cadet programme, and we look forward to forging new relationships.”
