Matrix Team officers were out yesterday and this morning conducting drink and drug driving checks as part of Operation Spotlight, a national campaign looking at the ‘fatal four’ contributing factors in fatal and serious collisions.
The 'fatal four' are:
On Sunday 14th July, 90 tests were carried out on Longlands Road in Middlesbrough, where one driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
A further five drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs during tests carried out overnight, leading to a total of six drivers arrested and taken into police custody.
An additional 76 tests carried out this morning in Stockton were thankfully negative.
Thank you to the majority of drivers who tested negative.
Officers continue to proactively carry out drink and drug driving checks as part of #OpSpotlight and will be educating drivers and enforcing the law wherever appropriate #fatal4
