A teenage boy and a man were arrested on Sunday 7th July as officers carried out Operation Spotlight drink and drug driving checks in Stockton.
Around 9:45am, a vehicle made off from Matrix Team officers after being signalled to stop in a parking area for roadside drink and drug driving checks. The Vauxhall Astra was pursued, and collided with street furniture until the damage caused to the vehicle brought it to a natural stop.
Two males fled from the vehicle on foot and were chased before being detained a short time later.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs, failing to stop, driving without a licence and driving with no insurance. He was later bailed whilst enquiries continue.
A 33-year-old man, a passenger in the same vehicle, was wanted on warrant and remanded in custody to appear in court.
Operation Spotlight continues throughout July, targeting the ‘fatal four’; the four main causes of fatal and serious collisions, and paying particular attention to those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
