Detectives from Redcar CID are promising Redcar & Cleveland residents their hard work will continue as several crime categories have been recorded as falling in the past six months.
They’ve also thanked their colleagues from response and neighbourhood teams for their support and contribution to the success.
From early December 2023 to early June:
🏠 Residential burglaries are 15% lower than in the six-month period June to December 2023 (and 28% lower than in May 2023)
🛒Commercial burglaries are 19% lower than the previous six months.
🚗🚙🏍 Vehicle offences (theft of/from vehicles) fell 30% when compared with the previous six months. Coatham, Kirkleatham and South Bank wards had seen the most reports.
🔪 📱 💷 robbery saw an 18% reduction. Coatham, Eston, South Bank and Grangetown were the most affected areas.
Detectives secured a number of charges across the offences, with some people already convicted and remanded and others awaiting their court appearances.
🗣Detective Chief Inspector Dave Snaith from Redcar CID said: “These results are thanks to an intense focus on the crimes which can most affect our communities and affect the law-abiding majority’s quality of life – as well as the application of some really good policing!
“We keep a close eye on emerging crime trends and use all available assets to tackle those suspected of committing offences and to support residents.
“Regular updates from our Analysts and Intelligence Officers help us identify hotspot areas and suspects then with support from our specialist teams like Matrix and drone operators complemented by proactive and reassurance patrols from our neighbourhood policing colleagues, we take proportionate, positive and proactive steps to drive down crime.
“Our local authority, housing and Fire Brigade partners also play a vital role – we hold daily meetings with them where we share intelligence, identify vulnerable residents and any safeguarding issues whilst building up a picture of key offenders and organised crime so we can work stronger together to keep people safe while tackling criminals.
“I must also thank those members of the public who continue to provide information from their neighbourhood – this local information is invaluable to police.
“I’d urge anyone with information on crime or ASB to report to Cleveland Police online via the website, by calling the 101 number at any time, or if you don’t want to speak to police, by contacting www.crimestoppers-uk.org or phoning them on 0800 555 111”
