Officers arrived at Grainger Street at around 6.40pm on Sunday 3 March to find a 19-year-old man, from Hartlepool, with numerous knife injuries to his arms.
Two men, described as being dressed in dark clothing, are believed to have been travelling in a van shortly before the man was stabbed. The men then exited the van and left the area in the direction of Turnbull Street.
Detectives are continuing to follow numerous lines of enquiry and as part of their investigation they are appealing for information, CCTV or dash cam footage from members of the public.
Detective Constable Ben Walton, from Hartlepool CID, said: “The man sustained serious injuries to his arms and was taken to James Cook University hospital where he is now in a stable condition.
“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses however we are still keen to hear from anyone who has information and has not yet spoken to police.
“I’d also encourage anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously in the area shortly before and after the stabbing took place to get in touch with us.
“Any information, CCTV or dash cam footage – no matter how small could really help support our investigation.”
