A house closure order has been secured by Cleveland Police and Middlesbrough Council in North Ormesby.
On Friday 15th March, the order was granted at Teesside Magistrates Court, and officers and council colleagues attended Jubilee Street to enforce the closure.
No one will be able to enter the address for a period of at least three months.
Action was taken after concerns were raised by residents in the area around serious crime and disorder, nuisance and drugs supply. Visitors were reported to be attending the property at all times of the day and night to buy drugs.
Some residents told police they were concerned for their own safety and that they live in fear on a daily basis, due to the behaviour of those living at the property.
Inspector Darren Birkett from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Today we have secured a closure order along with our colleagues from Middlesbrough Council after we received concerns from the local community who had had enough of the behaviour going on there.
“We won’t tolerate anyone being threatened, living in fear or losing sleep over the unacceptable behaviour of others. These people don’t care about the misery they cause to others, and as a result they have now been moved out of the house and are unable to return.
“I would urge anyone who wishes to raise concerns about tenants at a property who may be causing crime and antisocial behaviour in their area, to contact Cleveland Police on 101.”
Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke said: “I supported the application for this closure order after listening carefully to local people’s horror stories about this address.
“The decent people of North Ormesby shouldn’t have to put up with this behaviour and I’d like to thank Council officers and Cleveland Police for pursuing this through the courts.
“I’d urge anyone living in Middlesbrough who is suffering in a similar way to report their concerns to police or the Council. We will take action.”
