Hartlepool Neighbourhood Team have been in Greatham, carrying out Community Speedwatch checks following some concerns raised by residents of vehicles driving at speed through the village.
Eight out of the 24 vehicles observed were driving in excess of the speed limit, and the registered keepers will receive letters from Cleveland Police.
Inspector Adrian Dack of Hartlepool Neighbourhood Policing said: “We’ve listened to the concerns of residents of the village and will continue to carry out checks like this to ensure that drivers are adhering to speed limits.
“I urge drivers across the town to please drive safely and within specified speed limits on our roads. Speed restrictions are in place in residential areas to ensure that pedestrians are safe, which is why limits are lowered around schools and villages.”
