This #DeafAwarenessWeek (6th-12th May) we want to highlight our service to Deaf or hearing-impaired people.
Senior officer and Neighbourhoods Chief Inspector Nigel Burnell works closely with local partner agencies, attending the North East & Cumbria Deaf Network meetings to obtain feedback and perspectives from public service users and share learning in the region.
And neighbourhood officers attend local Deaf Centres on a regular basis, to engage with Centre users and to learn of any issues or concerns they may have.
We’d also like to remind anyone who uses British Sign Language about Cleveland Police’s Sign Live service.
You can use Sign Live to contact Cleveland Police when it’s not an emergency. The free service connects callers to a qualified online BSL interpreter who relays the conversation between the caller and Cleveland Police helping them report a crime or incident in an accessible way.
It’s used like the 101 non-emergency telephone number, to report crimes or incidents which have happened in the past, or for providing information to the police about issues affecting communities.
