A police dog on his second shift on operational duties has apprehended a man suspected of committing a robbery.
Newly licensed PD Trigger and handler PC Richie Robinson were called to a report of a robbery at a shop on Thornaby Road in Thornaby around 7:15am on Tuesday 28th May.
The suspect, reported to be in possession of a large knife, had made off from the scene.
A short time later a man was apprehended by PD Trigger near Briar Road.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody, where he remains at this time whilst enquiries continue.
PD Trigger and PC Robinson were amongst three handlers and three dogs who were licensed and welcomed into Cleveland Police’s Matrix team on Friday 24th May.
