An officer has praised a victim for their bravery and courage after a rapist was sentenced to eight years.
Simon Nash, 31, attacked the victim while she was asleep. The victim bravely reported the incident to police and Nash was arrested and subsequently charged with rape.
Following a trial, Nash was found guilty of rape and he appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Friday 17th May for sentencing.
A judge handed him an eight-year prison sentence and imposed a life-time restraining order. He will also be on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Detective Constable Joanne Shepherd said: “The victim has shown amazing strength and courage to report what had happened to her and I’d like to thank her for her bravery and unwavering support throughout the process.
“I’m pleased justice was served today and I hope the victim can find some comfort in knowing Nash is unable to harm anyone else.
“If anyone would like to report an incident, whether for themselves or on behalf of another person, I would urge them to Cleveland Police on 101.”
