The 21-year-old of Peirson Street was arrested at 3.30pm on Wednesday 8 May at a property in Redcar.
He was taken into police custody to be questioned and subsequently charged the following day with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered and arson.
He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Friday 10 May.
The charges relate to a car set alight at 12.20am on Monday 6 May on Cransfield Avenue in Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough and a fire at a property on Greenway, Brambles Farm in Middlesbrough at 11.40pm on Tuesday 7 May.
