Detectives who investigated two separate reports of violent incidents in Middlesbrough are reassuring the public they will continue to identify and deal with those suspected of being involved in such offences.
This week a 44-year-old man was remanded into custody after appearing at Teesside Magistrates’ Court having been charged with possession of a knife in a public place, and with Section 18 assault.
The charge follows an investigation by Middlesbrough CID into a report of a 45-year -old man being stabbed on Thornton Street on 23rd May. The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.
And following an unrelated incident in which two women (23 and 43) reported being followed by a man in a white van near Teesside University campus and then assaulted, uniformed officer colleagues quickly located and arrested a 23-year-old man whereupon Middlesbrough CID took over enquiries into the incident which was alleged to have taken place in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday 25th May).
The man was interviewed and subsequently charged with attempted kidnap, two counts of assault, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving whilst uninsured, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and assaulting an emergency worker.
He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday 27th May.
