The 38-year-old man, of Harlech Close in Middlesbrough, was arrested on Sunday 24 November.
After being detained on Birchington Avenue in Eston, he was taken to police custody for questioning.
Last night (Monday 25 November), the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised he be charged with murder, possession of a knife and criminal damage.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Tuesday 26 November.
The 33-year-old woman, from Middlesbrough, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released with no further action.
The charge relates to the stabbing of a 34-year-old man at 9pm on Thursday 21 November on Birchington Avenue near Lealholm Walk. He was taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance and died a short time later.
