At 8.45pm on Friday 1 November police were called to the Holiday Inn Express on Albert Road in Middlesbrough following reports of concern for a man.
The man has sustained injuries to his face that is believed to have been caused by an assault.
He was taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance and is in a serious but stable condition.
A scene is currently in place while enquiries are ongoing.
