Middlesbrough Proactive Team has been focusing on crime and ASB in the Newport area, with officers tackling visible Class A drug dealing which can cause nuisance and distress to residents.
On Saturday afternoon plain clothed officers from the team saw suspicious activity in Ayresome Gardens however they were unable to detain any suspect at that time.
At tea time the same day the officers saw the alleged suspect in a barber’s shop on Parliament Road and he was detained in the premises.
Searches revealed around £1, 400 worth of cocaine as well as empty grip seal bags, ammonia, digital scales and a phone. All the items were seized by police.
The 36-year-old man was arrested, interviewed and subsequently charged with possession of a Class A drug (cocaine) with intent to supply.
He was remanded in police custody, to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning.
