You’ve told us the issues that you want to see being tackled by our officers and here is our update on what we have carried out so far:
Drugs – In outer Stockton we have continued to target drug dealing particularly where it involves the exploitation of vulnerable people including children. We’re continuing to act on intelligence provided by members of the public and utilising our powers, such as stop and search and the closure of premises to reduce the harm that drug dealing causes in our communities.
We have made numerous positive interventions and below are some examples:
In August 2024 – two men were each sentenced to 36 months in prison for dealing class A drugs.
In September 2024 – a stop and search of a man found several deal bags of cocaine. He was charged and remanded in custody for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
In September 2024 – a man was stopped and searched in Thornaby. An offensive weapon and crack cocaine were found and seized leading to his arrest and subsequent prison sentence.
In October 2024 – numerous individuals were searched at a property in Yarm resulting in a large quantity of cocaine and cash being recovered. One man was charged and remanded in custody for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
In October 2024 – four bags of cannabis and 47 wraps of crack cocaine were recovered following the search of a man. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B.
October/November 2024 – two cannabis farms were discovered and dismantled in Wynyard and Thornaby.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB) – we’re constantly monitoring call levels and speaking to members of the public to identify areas where ASB is taking place. Where required we adopt a problem-solving approach by working with our partners including community safety from the local authority.
Over the past three months we have used powers including closure orders for premises and dispersal orders in areas where there were issues.
We have held events to remove nuisance vehicles from the roads including our most recent event at the start of November where we seized another four vehicles.
In total, calls for ASB over the three-month period dropped from 850 at the end of July to 705 for the period ending in October 2024, which is a reduction of 17 per cent.
Burglary – We’ve continued to work with our colleagues to tackle burglary in Stockton. This includes supporting victims by identifying vulnerability such as poor lighting and making offer of some crime prevention equipment which we secured funding for earlier in the year.
We have proactively patrolled areas that have shown an increase in burglary and worked with detectives in CID to identify and detain those responsible.
Outer Stockton officers have made enquiries around dwelling burglary offences to make the locality aware. This improves target hardening by making everyone aware of the issue and giving advice to report suspicious activity.
Over the past six months, ending 31 October 2024, we saw a total of 259 burglary offences across the area, this is down from 339 offences over the preceding six months, a 23.6 per cent reduction.
