Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team officers seized counterfeit perfumes in Middlesbrough town centre on Friday 18th October.
A male was seen in the town centre with the counterfeit goods, which he was suspected of attempting to sell to members of the public. They were recovered and handed across to Middlesbrough Council’s Trading Standards team.
Middlesbrough town centre PC Chris Swales said: “If legitimate, these goods could have been worth up to around £1,000, however, they were likely to be sold and are not as described. Items like this could cause harm, people don’t know what goes into them. But they are not the items as described, and any counterfeit perfumes like this which we see being sold in the town will be confiscated and handed over to Trading Standards to progress enquiries.”
Judith Hedgley, Head of Middlesbrough Council’s Public Protection Service, said: “This is an excellent example of the regular joint work carried out between Cleveland Police and Trading Standards to remove counterfeit, potentially unsafe products from the marketplace and protect consumers and legitimate businesses in the town centre.”
