Hartlepool man jailed for violently assaulting woman and police officers.

A Hartlepool man who violently assaulted a woman and then one of the police officers who came to her aid has been jailed after being found guilty of several counts of assault.

Adam Wilkins, 35, also assaulted a custody detention officer whilst being dealt with for the two original offences.

Wilkins persistently denied his actions of 1st October 2021, however this summer a jury found him guilty of all the offences he was charged with (assault ABH and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker).

He has now returned to court for sentencing where he was handed a total sentence of three years and six months

He is also subject to a seven-year restraining order and must pay a victim surcharge.

Speaking after sentencing, officer in the case Detective Constable Genyfer Smith said: “On arriving at the scene police were met by the woman who had extensive facial injuries. 

“And even upon his arrest Wilkins continued with his violent behaviour, assaulting a police officer and later a detention officer.

"This has been a lengthy investigation with unavoidable delays in the legal and court processes however the brave victim-survivor continued to support our investigation and this week an entire jury found Wilkins guilty.

“He’ll now spend a considerable amount of time in prison, as well as being subject to restrictions upon his release.

“I hope this brings this lady a degree of comfort as she continues to process what she went through and I wish her well for the future.”
