Shortly before 4pm on Wednesday 2 October police were called to reports of an industrial accident.
It involved a man falling from height at Blue House Point Road on Portrack Grange Road in Stockton.
The man sadly died at the scene and his family has been informed.
Officers are working alongside the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
This morning (Friday 4 October) a 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and is currently in police custody.
