The 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of eight thefts and one attempted theft and following questioning he was subsequently charged.
He was remanded in custody and appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court on Thursday 17 October.
The charges relate to reports of thefts of items costing approximately £2,000 from Tesco in Ingleby Barwick that occurred between June and October 2024.
