A man from Hartlepool has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after attempting to steal another man’s shopping and his bike.
31-year-old Jordan Malton, of Hartlepool, approached the victim on a residential street in the Foggy Furze area of the town on the evening of Saturday 15th June 2024.
The victim had been shopping and on his way home when Malton approached him and attempted to take the goods from him. When the victim challenged the offender, Malton punched him in the face. It was only when a family member of the victims’ came outside to help that Malton made off empty handed.
He was later arrested and charged with attempted robbery by Hartlepool CID officers and he then pleaded guilty.
Malton appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Monday 21st October, where he received a 30-month prison sentence.
Hartlepool CID Detective Constable Sarah Harrison, said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed to Jordan Malton. We won’t tolerate robberies taking place in this town. Having someone approached on their way home from shopping and being assaulted is not acceptable and anyone who carried out criminal offences like this can expect to be put before the courts.”
