26-year-old Jamie Govan, from Stockton, has today (Monday 7th October) been jailed for his part in violent disorder in Middlesbrough on 4th August this year.
Govan made threats and was hostile to police following hours of disorder, where he shouted profanities and made gestures with his hands shouting “come on” to police, whilst moving towards officers.
Upon arrest he swung out his arms and kicked out his legs, meaning that restraints had to be applied to prevent injury to him and to officers. He then grabbed an officers’ baton, refusing to listen or let go.
He was then handcuffed and taken to police custody.
Govan was handed an 18-month sentence.
