The 52-year-old, of Rydal Street, was arrested and following questioning by police subsequently charged with two counts of attempted burglary of homes in the town.
He has since been remanded in custody and due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court this morning (Thursday 17 October).
The charges relate to reports of a man attempting to gain access to two homes on Belmont Gardens at around 5.45am on Monday 14 October.
