This national Anti-Spiking Intensification Week we’re joining forces across the UK in reminding our communities that spiking is illegal and the consequences for anyone caught spiking could include a criminal record, a prison sentence of up to 10 years, and even being placed on the sex offenders’ register.
If a robbery, sexual assault or other crime took place following spiking, the sentence may be even longer.
Inspector Phil Morris said: “People perhaps don’t realise the serious consequences if they commit spiking offences. This week we’re issuing the warning that being caught spiking has real and lasting consequences – from having a criminal record which can affect your future in terms of jobs, travel and relationships, to the real possibility of a prison sentence.”
