International Week of Deaf People 2024

We’re marking International Week of Deaf People, a period when we reaffirm our commitment to creating a society that has a greater understanding of people who are D/deaf.

We want to remind our D/deaf communities that our Force Control Room offers the SignLive facility for users of British Sign Language (BSL) when they wish to report a non-emergency crime or a local issue.

You can use Sign Live to contact Cleveland Police when it’s not an emergency.  The free service connects callers to a qualified online BSL interpreter who relays the conversation between the caller and Cleveland Police helping them report a crime or incident in an accessible way.

It’s used like the 101 non-emergency telephone number, to report crimes or incidents which have happened in the past, or for providing information to the police about issues affecting communities.
