At 9.50pm on Saturday 7 September a report was made of a man being violent towards a woman on a train.
The train stopped at Stockton railway station on Bishopton Lane and a woman, aged 26, was taken to University Hospital of North Tees by ambulance.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of intentional strangulation and is currently in police custody.
