The 22-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested by officers who were carrying out a search of the area following a report of an attempt to burgle a property.
Following interview, he was subsequently charged with attempted burglary.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Monday 9 September.
The charge relates to a report of a man in the back garden of a property on Holyrood Lane attempting to gain entry. It occurred at approximately 3pm on Saturday 8 September.
