The 45-year-old man, of Hartington Road, was arrested on Monday 2 September and questioned by officers.
He was subsequently charged with vehicle interference, theft from a vehicle and fraud by false representation and released on conditional bail until he appears at Teesside Magistrates Court on Tuesday 24 September.
The charges relate to a car broken into on Whitton Road in the early hours of Thursday 8 August and items stolen from inside.
Officers would like to thank members of the public for supporting their investigation by providing CCTV, dash cam and doorbell footage.
