Teens Arrested after Suspected Stolen Vehicle Stopped

Two teenagers were arrested after a suspected stolen vehicle was spotted by Matrix Team officers as Operation Spotlight continues.

Operation Spotlight is a national two-week road safety campaign aimed at young drivers and riders; which aims to raise awareness of the ‘fatal four’ contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions.

A suspected stolen car was spotted just after midnight on the A66 in Middlesbrough, heading in the direction of Darlington, in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 25^th September).

Officers from the Matrix Team were able to stop the vehicle after a stinger was used, and two males aged 15 and 17 were arrested.

A 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, no insurance, taking a motor vehicle without the owners’ consent and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Both remain in police custody at this time.
