Two teenagers were arrested after a suspected stolen vehicle was spotted by Matrix Team officers as Operation Spotlight continues.
Operation Spotlight is a national two-week road safety campaign aimed at young drivers and riders; which aims to raise awareness of the ‘fatal four’ contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions.
A suspected stolen car was spotted just after midnight on the A66 in Middlesbrough, heading in the direction of Darlington, in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 25th September).
Officers from the Matrix Team were able to stop the vehicle after a stinger was used, and two males aged 15 and 17 were arrested.
A 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, no insurance, taking a motor vehicle without the owners’ consent and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Both remain in police custody at this time.
