Officers in Redcar & Cleveland have welcomed new figures which show “exceptionally low” figures for residential burglary for the first month of this year.
In January 2025 there were 42 crimes reported across the whole district - 23 fewer than in January 2024 - a decrease of 35.4%.
There have been more than half a dozen arrests recently of suspected serial offenders, with officers always seeking remands wherever possible.
Detective Chief Inspector Jon Hagen from Redcar & Cleveland CID said: “This is an encouraging start to the year and these exceptionally low figures make for extremely welcome reading, but we’ll never be complacent.
“We recognise that a house burglary can be very distressing for victims and as such, even one offence is too many. Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their own home and we will always do all we can to reassure protect and safeguard repeat or vulnerable victims.
“We’ve achieved these results by taking swift action against any suspects who are identified and this has resulted in prompt arrests and charges.
“We’ve also worked closely with our partners and the community to seek civic sanctions like house closures and criminal behaviour orders.
“We’ll continue this combination of proactive and reactive policing and we’ll make the most timely and efficient use of all available resources.”
