Oracko was arrested and charged after an investigation carried out by Middlesbrough CID, which also included a public appeal for information.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Itsharm Ramzan, said: “Firstly, I would like to applaud the bravery of the victim in this case, who came forward and reported this traumatic incident to police and I want to thank her for her patience throughout the criminal justice process.
“I would also like to thank the public for coming forward with information after we appealed as part of our investigation, to help support the prosecution and eventual conviction of David Oracko. He had tried to evade police but was arrested a few days after the incident.
“Any victim of rape is encouraged to come forward and report it. You will be believed, and any offences will be thoroughly investigated.”
