Shortly after midnight on Friday 28 February police were called to reports of a stabbing believed to have taken place in a property on Fonteyn Court in Hemlington.
A 28-year-old man sustained significant injuries and despite urgent care by officers and paramedics, he sadly died in an alleyway close to the scene.
His family has been informed and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
A murder investigation has been launched by detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) and enquiries are now underway including obtaining and reviewing CCTV and conducting house-to-house visits for information with scenes in place.
Senior Investigating Officer Matt Hollingsworth, from Cleveland Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We have a couple of scenes in place as we begin extensive enquiries, I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the stabbing and either witnessed what took place or has information.
“I would also encourage anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage to get in touch.
“I understand there will be concern in the local community and I want to take this opportunity to reassure residents that we will be working around the clock to identify and detain who is responsible.
“There will be an increased police presence with patrols in the area for your reassurance and I would encourage anyone who has concerns to speak to an officer.”
Anyone who has information, mobile, dash cam or doorbell footage is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference number 034989. Or you can provide information via a website set up for the investigation.
