Nine stolen off-road bikes were seized and multiple arrests were made over the past few days as officers from Redcar and Cleveland continue to crack down.
Following information that a suspected stolen motorbike was being kept in a container in Brotton, officers from Redcar and Cleveland’s Proactive Team quickly arrived at the scene.
Thanks to their quick actions, the team obtained an emergency out of hours warrant from Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 8th February allowing them to enter the container.
A subsequent search of the container led officers to recover a total of six suspected stolen motorbikes.
Enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the owners of the motorbikes as well as those responsible.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 022985.
The following day on Sunday 9th February, Proactive Team officers were conducting enquiries at an address in Redcar when a suspected stolen motorbike was located in the rear garden.
Further enquiries found that the motorbike had been reported stolen from the Northumbria area back in September 2024.
A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods. He has been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.
Later that evening on 9th February, officers from Greater Eston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) were carrying out proactive patrols in Grangetown when they spotted two men on a motorbike acting suspiciously.
As officers approached the men, they made off into an address. Following a search of the address with the help of Redcar Response, two men were arrested.
Officers also located a number of weapons, firearms ammunition and Class C drugs, believed to be nitrous oxide.
After making further enquiries, officers discovered the motorbike was reported stolen from the Whitby area in August 2024.
A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of nitrous oxide, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of ammunition for a firearm when prohibited.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and he was also wanted in relation to a reported robbery. Both men remain in custody at this time.
And today (10th February 2025), officers from Greater Eston NPT made enquiries into a Honda motorbike which was reported stolen from South Bank yesterday (Sunday 9th February).
Officers located the vehicle near to a commercial premises in the Nunthorpe area. The bike will be returned to its owner, and the investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible.
Inspector Neil Deluce said: “We know from speaking to the community that off-road bikes make the lives of residents an absolute misery and we’re determined to pursue those responsible and deter people from committing offences.
“Thanks to the quick work of the Proactive Team, we were able to secure an emergency warrant so we could seize the bikes before they could potentially be moved again. By seizing these bikes, we’re preventing them from being used in crime whilst also reuniting them with their rightful owners.
“Our work didn’t stop there however and by being proactive and visible in the community, we were able to seize two more bikes. I hope these recent results reassure the community that we’re taking their concerns seriously and we will take action.”
Anyone who may have information regarding the use of off-road bikes, or where they are being stored, is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or you can report online via our website: Report a crime | Cleveland Police Always call 999 in an emergency.
