Three teenagers, aged 18, 17 and 15, are believed to have broken into a property on Elliot Street in Redcar on Sunday 21 December and after stealing a vehicle, the trio fled the scene.
Since then, numerous enquiries have been ongoing to locate the offenders and the vehicle and shortly after 4pm on New Years Day, police received information that it was in the Whitby area.
Officers swiftly alerted their colleagues at North Yorkshire Police who tracked the vehicle to the A171 near Moorsholm.
A pursuit began through the Cleveland border towards Guisborough where a stinger device was used to deflate the tyres.
It was brought to a stop near Charltons and following a search of the vehicle, officers recovered two knives.
The 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of criminal property, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cocaine. He was also interviewed in connection with the alleged theft of the car, then bailed with conditions pending further enquiries.
The 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and has been interviewed, then released on bail with conditions as the investigation continues.
