Two men have been sentenced following two incidents of arson in Middlesbrough.
The first incident, on Cranfield Avenue in the early hours of Monday 6th May 2024, happened when a vehicle parked on the driveway of a house was set alight. The occupants of the house were in at the time, and were thankfully unharmed in the incident.
The following day, on Tuesday 7th May 2024, the front door to a house on The Greenway was set alight, with the occupants inside.
Thankfully the occupants were able to put out the fire before it got any worse, and no one was hurt.
A Middlesbrough CID investigation into the incidents led to the arrest of 21-year-old Kenneth Grange and 42-year-old Andrew Costello, both of Middlesbrough.
Following a trial at Teesside Crown Court, both were convicted of arson and arson with intent to endanger life. At Bradford Crown Court on Friday 10th January, both men were sentenced.
Kenneth Grange was sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison, with three years extended on license.
Andrew Costello received 9 years imprisonment with five years extended on license.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Itsharm Ramzan, from Middlesbrough CID, said: “These two men carried out two targeted attacks on a vehicle and a home which could have easily led to a fatality.
“Their reckless behaviour has now rightly led to lengthy prison sentences which we are pleased with, and we hope this serves as a message to both defendants and anyone else who seeks to involve themselves in dangerous and criminal actions like these.”
