At 11.30pm on Friday 17 January police were called to Norton Road in Stockton following reports of a stabbing near to Windmill Terrace.
The 39-year-old local man was taken to North Tees General Hospital with injuries to his stomach, hands and leg.
Officers have been conducting house-to-house enquiries as part of the ongoing investigation.
On Monday 20 January officers arrested a 16-year-old local boy on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. He is currently in police custody being questioned.
