The 27-year-old man from Redcar was arrested on Wednesday 15 January and taken to police custody.
Following questioning, he has since been charged with 12 theft offences and remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Friday 17 January.
The charges relate to shop thefts that occurred between Thursday 12 December 2024 and Sunday 12 January 2025 at convenience stores including the Co-op on Redhill Road and the Spar on High Newham Road, both in Stockton.
