A 68-year-old man who pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting his son has been jailed.
Peter Simpson was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident in Belle Vue Grove Stockton on 29th July last year.
The victim, who is in his early thirties, reported that he’d been inside the address when Peter Simpson suddenly approached him from behind and attacked him with a knife, causing a serious injury to his neck which required hospital treatment.
When he first appeared at court in August 2024, Simpson denied attempting to kill the vulnerable younger man, and he was remanded in custody until the case came to trial this year.
Simpson later admitted serious assault (Section 18 GBH) and at the end of last week he was jailed for four years and five months.
Officer in the case Detective Constable Michaela Sanderson said: “This was a serious unprovoked attack on a vulnerable man and Simpson initially denied his actions. I’m relieved he has now pleaded guilty to the assault and will serve time in prison for his actions.”
