Police Warn Householders to Lock Doors Following Reports of Burglaries Overnight

Police have issued more reminders to householders to keep doors locked, even when at home, following three reports of ‘two-in-one’ burglaries (where thieves enter a house and...

...take car keys in order to steal a car) in Stockton, Norton and Billingham, and three burglaries in Acklam.

The incidents happened yesterday and overnight, with burglars entering through insecure doors in several of these breaks.

A black VW Golf, a blue Chevrolet and a black Alpha Romeo were stolen in the ‘two-in-ones’ and alcohol stolen from one of the houses in Acklam.

Officers want to remind householders to be vigilant in light of these burglaries, and to make extra effort to ensure that all windows and doors are locked, even when you are in the house.

Inspector Glen Westmoreland said: “Once you get in to your house, lock the door behind you as it only takes minutes for a burglar to sneak in through your front door and take your keys.

“Make it part of your bedtime routine to check that windows and doors are locked; then you will be able to sleep soundly in the knowledge that you have secured your property.
