Appeal Following Robbery in Thornaby

Police are appealing for information following a robbery in which a 21-year-old woman had her rucksack stolen in Thornaby.

The victim was carrying a rucksack with a laptop and other personal items in it as she walked from Mandale Road, Stockton, across the roundabout at the junction of Westbury Street in Thornaby at around 8.30pm on Friday 4th March.

As the woman reached the first bus stop on Westbury Street after the bridge over the A66, she felt a pull on her rucksack. She stumbled before turning around and saw a man who had fallen over due to the force in which he had pulled the rucksack. He stood up and ran away with the rucksack and its contents down a footpath adjacent to the A66, in the direction of Thornaby Road.

The suspect is described as 5ft 5” tall, of medium build with short, fair hair and aged in his late teens or early twenties. He was wearing a dark hooded top and bottoms.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Shaun Jackson from Stockton Volume Crime Team on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
