Warning Following Money Scams

Officers are warning local businesses of a scam after a report has been received following two men attempting to exchange a large quantity of cash.

The incident occurred at the Post Office on Gurney Street (inside McColls shop) in New Marske yesterday, Thursday 12th May when two males, believed to be described as of Asian appearance attempted to exchange £2,000 in cash.
The cashiers refused to exchange the money and the suspects became aggressive and then left.

Similar reports of this nature were made in March after a woman attempted to exchange fake dollars into cash.

Anyone with information or anyone who thinks that they may have been a victim of the scam is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
