Staff Member Received Commendation Award for Exceptional Work

A staff member has received a commendation from Cleveland Police’s Temporary Chief Constable following an incident in which she helped lead a victim of rape to safety.

Michaela Atkinson had worked for Sopra Steria in call handling in the Force control room for only a matter of months when she took a call from a woman reporting that she had just been raped.

The victim was extremely distressed and was still in danger. She did not know where she was and needed help.
Michaela remained calm throughout the call and managed to trace the female’s location, direct her out of the property that she was in and lead her to safety.

Michaela took full control of the situation and managed to guide the woman to safety and keep her calm until police arrived at the scene to look after her.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.
