Appeal for Witnesses after 19-Year-Old Man is Racially Abused and Assaulted in Hartlepool

Police are appealing for information after a 19-year-old man was racially abused and assaulted on Saturday 9th July between 4pm and 4.10pm on Freemantle Grove in Hartlepool.

The victim was cycling towards Seaton Lane when a grey van with three males inside deliberately swerved towards him, causing the victim to quickly move out of the way for his own safety.

The three males then began shouting racial abuse towards the victim and threw a coke can at him, which struck him above the eye.

The driver of the van got out and it is believed he waved an axe towards the victim, before getting back in the van when he picked up a stone to defend himself. He did not receive medical treatment after the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects or the incident is asked to contact PC Julie Cladingbowl on the non-emergency 101 number.  Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
