Officers Receive Awards After Saving Woman’s Life

1 At the beginning of this month some of our officers and staff received a Commendation Award from Chief Constable Iain Spittal for their outstanding hard work and dedication to the Force.

On the evening of Monday 19th September 2016, PC Matthew Kenning and PC Kevin Guthrie were on patrol in the West View area of Hartlepool when they discovered a woman who was laid in the street.

Both officers immediately realised that the woman was choking and she became unconscious. The quick-thinking officers placed the woman into the recovery position to clear her airway whilst an ambulance was called.

PC Kenning and PC Guthrie remained with the woman, who was drifting in and out of consciousness, until the ambulance arrived.

If it wasn’t for their initial actions, the situation may well have escalated even further for the woman whose life had been saved by the officers.

In recognition of their quick life-saving actions, Matthew and Kevin were awarded a Chief Officers Commendation.
