Warning Following Potential Bogus Caller in Hartlepool

Police are appealing for information following a report of a suspected male bogus caller on Meadowgate Drive in Hartlepool.

The incident occurred at 9am on Tuesday 28th November when a man approached the address and asked the home owner if they felt safe with the CCTV on the property.

The home owner then questioned the man who stated he worked for the police and they asked him to provide identification to which he provided a security door staff I.D card.

At the time of the incident the man was wearing civilian clothes and the home owner asked him to leave. Once the man had left, he attempted to approach other houses on the street.

Officers would always advise vigilance with cold callers and would suggest asking for identification and even calling the company concerned if necessary to verify identification.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Steven Ridsdale on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
