Police release additional footage of Spensley’s Rape the day before New Year’s Eve

Police investigating a rape which happened in the early hours of 31 December at Spensley’s Emporium on Albert Road, Middlesbrough have released four video clips in the hope it will jog the memory of people out in the town centre the night before New Year’s Eve.

It occurred between 2.30am and 3.30am on the morning of New Year’s Eve when a woman in her early twenties was raped in the women’s toilets.

Police have released new footage of a man they wish to speak with who was captured nearby on CCTV around this time. They are asking the man to get in touch with them or anyone who may know who he is to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

The first clip is of the man outside of Spensley’s Emporium who is accompanied by a man wearing a lighter shirt – police would also like to speak to this second man.

Both of them engage in conversation with door staff who inform them they are not allowed into the pub as one of them is wearing tracksuit bottoms.  Both leave a short time later.  There are a number of people standing around in the background and again police would like these people to come forward.

The second clip shows the man walking along Corporation Road accompanied by the same man he was with earlier outside of Spensley’s. This second man is then seen in the third clip leaving Spensley’s with a female.  Police would also like to speak to the female featured in the footage.

And the final clip shows the first man in what appears to be a friendly conversation with a different man with a bald head as they walk off along Corporation Road. The footage is taken from outside Spensley’s Emporium.

If you recognise yourself or anyone else in any of the footage – please get in touch with Cleveland Police, or if you were in or around Spensley’s Emporium from 1.00am up until closing at 3.50am and haven’t spoken to police – again, please get in touch.

Police will also be out today putting up posters of the man they want to speak with in the area around the town centre.
