Chief Constable’s New Year message

Looking back over the last 12 months I’d like to pay tribute to our police officers and staff for all their hard work. Their bravery, dedication and professionalism have so impressed me since I joined Cleveland Police at the start of the year.

The last year has not been easy for Cleveland Police or for the communities we serve. The financial pressures we face are huge, the challenges of policing our communities with reduced resources are enormous and legacy issues continue to have an impact.

Looking to the future, the changes we make at Cleveland Police in 2019 will produce significant improvements and I know our officers and staff will continue to do their job with courage and commitment.

For my small part I will continue to provide leadership and strongly advocate for fairer funding for Cleveland Police. I will continue to speak out, to do the right thing and fight for a more equitable deal for our brilliant Force and our great communities.

Across our communities we need to start believing in ourselves more and as a Force we need to do the same - because from what I have seen this is a great area with great people.

I’d like to thank all those working over Christmas and the New Year helping to keep our communities safe. Across the country staff from all the emergency services will be giving up time with their families to make sure other people’s families are safe. Thank you – what you do is so important and is greatly appreciated.
