Football Operations Unit Launches Twitter Accounts for Football Fans

Football fans are being encouraged to follow two new Twitter accounts in the run up to the beginning of the new season.

Fans of Middlesbrough Football Club and Hartlepool United Football Club can follow @MFC_ClevPol and @HUFC_ClevPol to see information posted by officers from Cleveland Police’s Football Operations Unit.

Information will be posted in relation to home games, away games, friendlies and Cup matches and will advise fans on travel arrangements, parking, areas of congestion and information from the host force.

Superintendent Mark Thornton said: “I’d like to encourage fans of both Hartlepool United Football Club and Middlesbrough Football Club to make use of these social media accounts to get their information about upcoming games.

“It’s important that we are able to inform fans of what’s happening on match days, especially as areas of congestion can develop quite quickly and we can then advise people about which roads to avoid and alternative routes to help enhance their match day experience.

“Officers will also be sharing information about the day including crime prevention messages, local pubs and topical information in the vicinity of the respective football grounds and information released from the host force."
